How to Protect Your Car Interior This Summer

We’ve all had this experience before; you open your car door on a hot summer day and you get hit with an awful wave of heat. You step in and crank up the air conditioner, and wait for what seems like forever for your car to reach a tolerable temperature.
That unbearable amount of heat you feel when you first open the door is what your car is sitting in all day long! It would be foolish to think your car interior isn’t getting damaged from being exposed to that for hours on end. So what can you do to protect your car from the heat eating away at it? We are here to discuss few simple ways you can save your car from those blazing sun rays.

Windshield Shades

One of the easiest ways you can protect your car interior this summer is with a windshield shade. Excessive sun exposure can cause your dashboard to discolor or even crack, a windshield shade will prevent these damages.  The shade easily attaches to your windshield and protects the entire dashboard area of your car. For even more protection you can buy shades for your back window, and all of your passenger windows. Using shades will not only protect your interior from sun damage, but will also block out the UV rays and keep your car much cooler for your return!

Keep Your Car Interior Clean

Keeping your car interior clean year round is a great habit. One thing you want to pay extra attention to when cleaning in the summer is your car floor. Your car floor mats are the home of every drink you’ve spilled, crumb you’ve dropped, and piece of dirt you’ve ever tracked into the car. Not only will the summer heat bring out the foul smells of all these things, but it will also dry up these crumbs and spills and make them much harder to clean.
That being said, summer is the perfect time to give your car a deep carpet cleaning. Cleaning the actual carpet of your car is important, but you do not want to forget about your floor mats as well! Floor mats take the brunt of the floor’s wear and tear, so cleaning them regularly is necessary. It is also a good idea to regularly replace your floor mats. If you notice they’re sliding around, or your usual vacuuming just doesn’t seem to be helping them, it’s time for them to be replaced.

Seat Covers

While we’ve covered the windows, the dashboard and floors of your car we will now discuss how to protect perhaps the most important part of your car interior, the seats. Whether your seats are fabric or leather, both can suffer damage from sun exposure. Fading is an obvious consequence of sun exposure, but it can cause more expensive damages to your leather seats as well. When leather is exposed to direct sunlight and heat day after day the leather can one day dry out and begin to crack.  Seat covers can be a solution to these issues. Seat covers will protect your upholstery from the sun’s powerful rays, and not to mention will make car cleanups much easier. If your hesitant about using seat covers year round, you should consider using them at least in the summer when your they will suffer the most damage.

Routine maintenance year round is the best way to keep your car interior in pristine condition, but we realize that sometimes it can be a hassle! If you have any further questions about how you can protect your car, request a detail or give us a call at 603-964-7291!
